Yesterday's Big Thing: Giant Waterslide Jump

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

The viral video purveyors at Today’s Big Thing brought us a doozy yesterday. Watch as this insane intrepid fellow catches huge air and makes a spectacular splash landing.

We’re guessing that a roomful of M.I.T. physicists worked day and night on this thing, calculating wind-drift ratios, water displacement theory and the many other advanced logarithms necessary to make sure their human missile hit his thimble-sized target–and not a distant mountainside. Score one for science!

Something’s Fishy in Long Beach

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Take about a five minute walk from our office in beautiful Downtown Long Beach and you can find yourself at the doors of the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. Home to a variety of remarkable and exotic creatures, the Aquarium is also home to the only tiger shark in captivity in the mainland US, as LB Post reports.

It’s a big deal when you consider how massive the tiger shark gets, how potentially lethal they can be and—most importantly—how majestic and beautiful they are. Originally from Taiwan, the Aquarium’s tiger pup currently measures approximately five feet in length, but the average adult size is around 14 feet long (so yes, you are going to need a bigger boat)!

The exhibit may be one of the only opportunities you’ll ever have to see this magnificent creature up close and personal. For more information, visit the Aquarium of the Pacific’s Shark Lagoon website.

text-messaging-while-drivingCalifornia’s Wireless Communications Device Law prohibited text messaging while driving way back on January 1, 2009. That’s all fine and good, but since then we’ve all seen drivers to our right and left with their heads down and fingers tapping away.

So, what’s the deal? Why do so many people feel the incessant need to update their Facebook statuses, tweet about the meeting they’ve just come from or stay connected with the office about what clients have called in the past two minutes?

This article posted on CNN.com reveals an obsession that today’s professionals may have with remaining in the digital loop and the dangers that come with it.
