This last month has been jam-packed with G/J birthdays. Just two weeks ago we celebrated Kevin and Jen F’s birthdays, and today we celebrated our final birthday of the month! Today’s lucky birthday winner? Jayne!
In honor of Jayne’s special day, the whole team got together for another memorable lunch filled with delicious food, laughter and small chat. And if you know G/J, you know our get-togethers are never dull!
Here is a picture of Jayne posing with Giji–because, of course, who could be more fun to take a birthday picture with?
It’s a common problem: you love work and what you do, but sometimes you just can’t help but fall into the same old routine day after day. So where is the fun? The creativity? The innovation?
We all know how this goes, but how can we change it? Well, according to YouTube, taking just a few simple initiatives can help change your tired day into a success. Here is what they have done to reinvigorate their company:
1. New Ideas Week – Designate an entire work week to new ideas, where engineers can try and discover new things without the pressure of performance.
2. The Awesome Cup – Reward innovative thinking with a trophy that defines awesome. When someone does something worthy of the trophy, he or she keeps it until it is passed along to the next coworker who does something equally as awesome.
Super Bowl XLV is less than two weeks away and we know we can look forward to viewing numerous creative and innovative ads during the event. I prefer the funny and overly exaggerated ads for this occasion. Which do you prefer?
This year the companies producing ads we are expecting to hear buzz about include: Anheuser-Busch, HomeAway Inc., Audi, Best Buy, BMW North America, Mars, Bridgestone, Mercedez-Benz, Careerbuilder, PepsiCo’s Doritos, Chrysler, Pizza Hut, Coca-Cola, Skechers, E-trade, General Motors, Volkswagen of America and others.
But how can we keep score of which brand presents the best ad? Introducing Brand Bowl! Brand Bowl is making the Super Bowl a social media event. How does Brand Bowl work? Super Bowl viewers are encouraged to tweet about their favorite ads using the hashtag, #BrandBowl. Twitter will keep score of which ads receive the most buzz via tweets and will report the winners.
Hear what Christian and Andy, of Mullen and Radian6, have to say about measuring sentiment for all Super Bowl ads.
In 2010, over 60,000 viewers gave their two cents on which brand was best. Check out the top 10 brands from the 2010 Brand Bowl and remember to keep score of your top 2011 picks and share them here or on the Brand Bowl wall post on the G/J Facebook page Feb. 6th!
Today for lunch, the whole Gunn/Jerkens team got together for a grand celebration of birthdays! As usual, when we all get together, there was some interesting and rather odd conversation taking place–yard sales, polypeptides, beef jerky and, of course, talk about our birthday employees!
One of the best parts of the afternoon was when the cakes were unveiled–not only did Kevin and Jen F get their own cakes, but a lot of care went into picking them. And if you know Jen F, you know she was ecstatic for her beef jerky pseudo cake!
But birthdays weren’t the only thing we celebrated today. We’re also proud to announce that, after much deliberation and careful consideration, we are finally ready to unveil the new name of our G/J mannequin, The Perfect Employee. Sassy, hardworking and always playful, she lives and breathes Gunn/Jerkens and is thrilled to go by the name of…Giji! Thanks to everyone who helped suggest names. We hope you like our pick!
For all of you who don’t live in Southern California, let me tell you–the weather right now is simply wonderful. After weeks of hovering next to heaters and complaining about the cold, everyone here in the office is finally enjoying a sunny, warm relief. So much so, in fact, that many of our employees have begun shedding their clothes and embracing the heat!
Our mannequin, currently known as The Perfect Employee, decided not only to embrace the weather with a cute dress–but also to get in the birthday spirit for our two birthdays this week! And for those wondering, our special birthday employees are Kevin and Jen F!
Also in the mood, our very own Don Draper shed his coat in favor of wearing just his suit (hey, there is not much else he can do, so this is saying a lot!).
As we previously mentioned, there has been a lot of talk around the office lately about eco-friendly products and initiatives. So naturally, when I stumbled upon this article, I knew it was one I had to share.
EcoSet Consulting, a young California-based firm, goes out of its way to keep it green when making commercials. And when I say green—I don’t mean money. According to the article, the company has been working to protect the earth while still managing to make great commercials and production sets.
If you’re wondering what they’ve accomplished so far, since spring 2009, EcoSet has taken part in diverting over 100,000 pounds of waste from landfills and even uses pasta for coffee stirrers. Now that’s what I call green!
It’s that time again…everyone is making resolutions and vowing to keep them for the New Year. What are your resolutions for 2011?
