Top 5 Reasons to Visit Listgeeks!

Friday, May 27th, 2011

If you’re anything like me and you love making lists, then I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of this! I recently found a cool site called Listgeeks. Now, I know what you’re thinking: geeks and lists are not cool. Well maybe these two words aren’t cool by themselves, but put them together and you get an interesting idea!

The site allows you to not only create a plethora of lists to your heart’s fancy, but it also gives you the chance to view and swap items  on other users’ lists. If you’re wondering what the top ten best albums of all time are or the top ten things hipsters ruined, browse through the site and you’ll soon find what you’re looking for! You can find a list for almost everything, and of course, you can post your own lists as well.

A good start for this weekend is looking up the top fun things to do on Memorial Day. Check out the site and see what you can find!

Mayor Jayne!

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Yesterday Jayne walked over to our office food and drink supplier, Trimana Café, for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Everyone in our office knows Trimana is a pretty tech-savvy café with its use of large screen TVs streaming Twitter and RSS feeds of national news, but what Jayne saw when she walked in nearly knocked her off her feet! Upon entering, Jayne looked up to see a picture of herself on the café’s big screen TV, announcing that she had attained the coveted position of “Mayor of Trimana Café” – courtesy of Foursquare!

Boasting more than 6.5 million users worldwide, Foursquare is a geo-social mobile application that is based on the location of the user and the registered “check-in” spots/“venues.” The location you “check-in” at can be shared with your friends and networks. Doing so allows users to bookmark future destinations of interest and assist with vacation planning and touring cities and locations unfamiliar to the user.

Using Foursquare for business is great because it creates a way for customers to interact with your brand and allows you to offer incentives to keep customers coming back. These incentives are known as “specials.” Specials can be tailored to fit the needs of the business while encouraging customers to visit your venue. In this case, because Jayne “checked-in” at Trimana a certain number of times and was designated “Mayor of Trimana Café,” the café gave her $5 Trimana Bucks for a future purchase. Way to go, Jayne!

In the past we’ve seen some epic office battles between coworkers enthusiastically trying to beat one another out for the title of “Mayor of Gunn/Jerkens.” But with Jayne’s new position, it’s only eminent that a new battle is on the horizon.

Happy Birthday to Camy!

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Today we celebrated a very special day: It’s Camy’s Birthday! And in typical G/J fashion, everyone around the office came together for a special birthday lunch!

We all gathered in the conference room for our smorgasbord of food from cheesy pizzas and vegetable salads to Linda’s huge bag of radishes! And to finish off the feast, Camy had the honor of cutting and serving deliciously moist red velvet cake topped with cream cheese frosting. Can you say decadent?

But of course, it goes without saying that every Gunn/Jerkens lunch is an interesting affair–and if the conversions at this lunch were to be described as anything,  interesting would have to be the word. So interesting in fact that one of our team members (who wishes to remain anonymous for unknown reasons) had the whole office bursting into tears of laughter over stories of strange antics. But the real question remains: Was this laughter based on pure hilarity or  simply the odd result of shock and confusion?

Either way, we all had a great time and wish Camy a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Friday the 13th: A Day Without Luck?

Friday, May 13th, 2011

It’s finally Friday! You might be thinking TGIF (or even “Gotta get down on Friday”), but don’t get too excited. While today marks the beginning of the weekend, it also marks one of the most unlucky days of the year!

For some, Friday the 13th is just another day, but for many others, it’s a day filled with bad luck–black cats, broken mirrors, walking under latters. Anything is possible today!

So if you’re wondering, it’s probably safest to avoid dark alleys, use water AND soap and, of course, wear your seatbelt!

And if you happen to be in the G/J office, here are some extra things you should probably look out for:

-don’t print any large file on the black and white printer because chances are that’s the last time anyone will use it all day

-don’t even bother trying to use the fax machine

-and whatever you do, do NOT step on the hallway tile!

Happy Friday the 13th!

The Standing Desk

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

If you’ve been around the G/J office lately, you’ve probably heard some interesting conversations about food and calories. A few of us have been working hard to stay healthy and so far it really shows. Between long debates over points and discussions over the importance of fiber, we’ve all learned a bit about maintaining our weight. So naturally when I saw this article, I thought of everyone here at the office!

Most of us sit at a desk for eight hours a day, but what if we didn’t even have a chair? What if we had to stand at our desk? According to this article, you could burn hundreds more calories a day by simple standing instead of sitting. How’s that for doing a stand-up job!

Take a look at the Calorie-Burn Calculator from Just Stand and see how many calories you could burn. And to learn more, click here!
