5 Social Media Tips for 2012

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

The past 12 months have been filled with fun, laughter, innovation and hope, but now it’s time to move on to what’s next. With 2012 close on its heels, 2011 is at its end–which means preparing for everything that’s in store for the new year.

Social media was undoubtedly a huge part of 2011, and we don’t think it’s going anywhere any time soon. So to make sure you’ve got a head start for the year to come, we’ve got a couple of social media tips for you!

1. Join Google+. The social networking platform is still young, so now is a great time to get on board and ahead of the competition.
2. Don’t Forget the Links. With more people than ever on social networks, you can’t afford not to add links that lead back to your site and/or blog.
3. Button Up. Put social media buttons on your site, blog and emails so you can help others stay connected and help yourself get valuable traffic.
4. Add a Call to Action. If you want people to engage in your content, then ask.
5. More Is Better. Research shows that the more content you have, the more likely you are to get interaction.

Introducing Green Home Builder Magazine’s 2011 Community of the Year!

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Earlier this year we had the opportunity to work with our client Shapell Homes on a unique concept to showcase their green features.

G|J collaborated with Shapell Homes to develop an innovative green/sustainable presentation within the Sage at Plum Canyon Ranch model complex. The eye-catching storefront design is filled with a multitude of energy-saving solutions that allow visitors to preview the products and eco-savings found in each new home.

Now, we’re excited to announce that the Sage at Plum Canyon Ranch community has been named Green Home Builder Magazine’s 2011 Community of the Year!

Congratulations to the Shapell team! Thank you for allowing G|J to think outside of the box – while delivering the money-saving and eco-friendly message.

Happy Holidays!

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

We recently celebrated the season at the annual Gunn|Jerkens Holiday Extravaganza! Each year Linda surprises us with some sort of amazing adventure that is guaranteed to be both fun and sentimental – and this year was no exception!

For this holiday season, we all headed over to Wokcano Restaurant & Lounge in downtown Long Beach. After we all sat down, it was decided the time was right to give Linda her holiday gift. Wanting to do something new and creative, the G|J team spent several weeks before the party carefully planning, designing and producing a special project we knew Linda was sure to love. What was it you ask?

Collectively, we wrote, illustrated and produced a story book based on the classic fairytale Snow White & the Seven Dwarves. The G|J version is called Snow Gunn & the 13 Dwarves!

In it, we recount the history and growth of Gunn|Jerkens as well as the important roles we each play as team members here.

Linda was shocked and thrilled at the thoughtfulness that went into the gift. Touched by the gesture, she definitely cried tears of happiness, which made all the work well worth the effort!

After gift-giving, everyone enjoyed a scrumptious feast. It was a fantastic holiday party filled with great conversation, good food and even better memories!

Wishing everyone Happy Holidays from the G|J team!

Happy Birthday, Meredith!

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Today we celebrated the very special birthday of one of our account executives – Meredith! In honor of her day, we chowed down on Greek food from G|J’s favorite local restaurant and the feast was rounded off with a scrumptious strawberry shortcake.

Topics of conversation this afternoon included Meredith’s birthday plans, gyro meat, Javier’s restaurant and turtles with personality among other things!

The entire G|J team wants to wish Meredith a very happy birthday! Thank you for everything you do. We appreciate you.

The Future of Movies

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

From time to time a movie comes out that changes everything. With the introduction of the first color film, black and white movies became a thing of the past. Toy Story brought on an entire new industry of digital animation, and even The Blair Witch Project made an impact, proving that low-production movies can hold their own with with studio blockbusters.

Now it’s time for the next new thing. Olive, a new film by director Hooman Khalili, is on track to be the first feature-length smartphone-shot film to be released in theaters. You may be thinking that milllions of people each day record videos and make home movies on smartphones, and I’d have to say you’re right. But how many of them do you see making it to your local theater?

Khalili’s movie is likely the first of many more smartphone-shot movies to come. And with the growing number of smartphone users, it seems that the future of movie making may be more accessible than ever to the average person.

Olive is set to come out this month, but if you want to find out more, check out this video.

Are you excited to watch Olive? Would you ever consider filming a movie of your own using your smartphone?
