They’re Just Not That Into You

Friday, March 29th, 2013

Are your Facebook fans just not that into you? You may have a super cool brand and a large following, but engagement on your page may not be ideal… well, here’s why!

  1. Branded imagery. You might have too much overly branded content on your page. Don’t make your posts your advertisements – instead, use images to create a conversation and entice people to want to talk to you. Also, make sure your imagery is share-worthy to improve your viral reach.
  2. Product reviews. Humanize your brand! Share how well your company, product or service offering has done – but make sure you communicate this information in a conversational manner, not in the form of a formal PR-like story.
  3. Posting frequency. You want to stay at the top of your fans’ minds, but you don’t want them to get tired of seeing your messages. Post compelling content once or twice a day. Also, remember to keep your posting time as consistent as possible.
  4. Responsiveness. Your fans are looking to converse with you, so a generic thank you doesn’t cut it!

Bonus Tip: Ask for LIKES and shares. You can easily do this by adding a call to action that solicits this type of engagement from your fans!

March Birthday Madness!

Friday, March 22nd, 2013

When they say three is company, they’re definitely not kidding, and today in the G|J office we got to experience it for ourselves! We had (count ‘em) one…two…three birthdays to celebrate. And three birthdays at work means three times the fun! So who were our lucky girls and boy this time around? None other than Hallie, Maria and Kevin C.

For our traditional birthday lunch, it was a G|J first: Peruvian! Flavorful chicken, tender beef, rice, soup and rolls satisfied our taste buds and held us all over until the grand finale, which was, you guessed it, a fabulous cake. However, this was no normal cake; it was a cheesecake–and Hallie’s first ever! We’re glad to report that Hallie enjoyed it along with the rest of us.

And after our meal we got an extra special treat when Maria showed us a video of her daughter’s school talent show! There’s nothing like watching elementary school kids show off their skills!

Happy Birthday to Hallie, Maria and Kevin!

G|J Gives Project #1: Long Beach Rescue Mission

Monday, March 11th, 2013

After moving into our new place in Long Beach, we decided that it was time to give back to the community we call home. So we did some extensive research and determined that the Long Beach Rescue Mission would be the perfect place to volunteer as a team. We call ourselves, G|J Gives. Here’s a look at our first team adventure!

Tables were set for lunchtime!

Rachel knows how to mix a salad just right.

Onion cutting and crushing garlic was quite a potent task. Filling a 5-gallon bucket with chopped onions can lead to a lot of tears!

Maria and Kevin weren’t afraid of that garlic.

Getting ready to serve! Lookin’ good guys!

Katie takes care in cutting the bread in even pieces.

Drying dishes is a fun task for Laura.

And for Kevin…

A small kitchen doesn’t stop G|J. 17 tortilla casseroles were created in a long assembly line – talk about team work!

Ken and Andrew spreading tomato sauce with care.

Chili dogs mean lunch is served!

The serving ladies, Laura, Rachel, Camy and Maria, put a smile on everyone’s face.

Hallie shreds cheese like a pro. And Jen is the best can-opener in town!

Meredith doesn’t care about getting dirty.

Meredith, Danny and Rachel were the salad team.

Show me your fingers – Let’s make sure you leave with them.

G|J Gives was honored to serve the city of Long Beach. We got to know each other as people and had fun working together in a different environment. We are so excited to serve again at the Long Beach Rescue Mission!

Dreams, Goals, Aspirations and a Five-Year Plan

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Throughout our lives, we all develop goals and aspirations, and most of us put a plan of action together to make our futures less stressful and more successful. A five-year plan is the best way to set important long-term goals and give you a reason to move forward with a purpose while keeping the big picture in mind.

Overall, the five-year plan is a mix of your overarching dreams combined with the details needed to get there. It is a combination of your life’s goals and all the ‘what-ifs’ that can happen within the next five years. For example, if your lifetime goal is to create wealth for yourself, then your five-year goal might be to buy a house. In short, a five- year goal breaks down your lifetime achievements into smaller aspirations – helping you to remember what you need in order to make things happen.

When setting this goal, you have to let your imagination take off and be bold and confident in your decision to change your life. Planning that far in advance can be a challenge, but it’s also very rewarding. Five years is far enough into the future to give you enough time to conquer other significant milestones and accomplishments while working to achieve your goals.

Periodically evaluating your plan to determine what works and what doesn’t is critical to the overall execution of attaining the goals you’ve set. It’s also important to track your progress with a chart, resolution app or even an accountability partner.

Sometimes life gets in the way and spins your goals around, so go back and revisit your five-year plan often because it’s completely okay to make little changes!

Vine = Hot

Friday, March 1st, 2013

If you haven’t heard about the Vine app, then you need to check this out. It’s fun and easy to use – what more could you ask for?

Vine is like an Instagram for video. It creates neat little clips that can only be 6 seconds long. You just start and stop recording by tapping the screen, which creates awesome stop-motion animation and friendly competition between friends. It’s social, creative and quick!

This app allows you to feel like you are participating in a historic and global effort to document human life!

One reasons Vine will thrive is because it has Twitter as a parent! And did you know that Vine is currently number four in the app store?

Well, enough reading – get out there, download it and try it out for yourself. And for the month of March get creative with this Vine A Day Challenge.

Getting Personal

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

Our relationships with brands are more personal than ever before in history. It’s all about individuals and what they need, not about the products the brand wants to show off. And we all want to be recognized as individuals with personal opinions by each brand we come in contact with on a daily basis.

For almost a decade now, consumer expectations have grown exponentially. And the evolution of each of these needs has helped to propel the rise in social and mobile media available.

Today’s consumer engages in six behaviors that lead to a purchase: openness, realizing wants or needs, learning and education, seeking ideas and inspiration, research and vetting and, finally, post-purchase evaluation.

This loop-like model moves consumers from behavior to behavior, resembling a spider’s web and always connecting things to our wants, needs and desires.

Marketers who understand this complex and continually evolving system while adding perceived value to their advertised products and services will be more successful in keeping their brand top of mind with the targeted consumer base.

Because – remember – it’s all about the people!

Happy, Happy Birthday, Rachel!

Friday, February 15th, 2013

Today marked the second birthday bash in our unbelievable new office as we celebrated Rachel’s birthday! On the menu was a delicious array of Thai food – rices, noodles, curry and the sweet aroma of spices – followed by a scrumptious tres leches cake!

In the background you could hear the sounds of some popular tunes. But the whispers and murmurs in the room made it clear that we were all highly anticipating the premiere viewing of our first Friday viral video release – the G|J Harlem Shake! And that was the perfect way to end this party.

Happy birthday, Rachel. May this be your best year yet!

A Digital Valentine’s Day

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

Love is running through the digital air and it’s coming your way. Valentine’s doesn’t have to be about having a significant other. It’s easy to spread love by simply telling people like your friends or family that you love them, and this year social media is making it that much easier!

Here are some digital tips for your Valentine’s Day:

Clean up your news feed. Nothing gets you down more than someone else’s negativity. All you have to do is click the delete button and we promise you’ll feel-better instantly.

Create a Valentine’s playlist. Now’s the time to create a Spotify playlist of feel good, fun-loving songs and share it with the ones you care about.

Pin your heart out. Pinterest is an easy way to see everything you love all in one place. With a vision board, you’ll easily be reminded about what it is that makes you happy.

Post positive messages. A great quote or a fun picture is the best way to truly make Valentine’s Day a day of love.

Connect with others. Sending out an email to a long-lost friend or giving your grandparents a call is a sure way to make everyone feel good.

With all of these tips, we know that you will go out there and celebrate Valentine’s Day the way it deserves to be celebrated.

Don’t believe love can be found and shared in the digital space? See how digital love is thriving and check out this cute story about a couple who fell in love over Instagram!

Instagram Feed Is Now on the Web

Friday, February 8th, 2013

It’s finally happened! Now we can see everything that’s taking place on Instagram live on the web. You no longer have to grab your phone to check out what’s happening or to like your best friend’s lunch photo; now all you need to do is sit back and browse online.

It was announced this past Tuesday that, when you log on to your Instagram account online, you’ll be able to see everything that your phone sees in the photo feed – but bigger! There are still a number of differences between the online and mobile versions, but we think this is a step in the right direction for the photo-sharing app.

Online – you can’t upload photos or add filters, but you can like and comment on them. Just don’t expect to see the little orange popup that lets you know how many people have liked or commented on your photos. We hope this will be an added feature in the next Instagram update.

However, online photos instantly stream to your page in real-time without ever having to refresh the webpage!

What do you think of Instagram online? Share with us.
