Yesterday was a sad day for the world of technology and innovation. Apple’s co-founder, former CEO and creative mastermind, Steve Jobs, passed away at 56 years old. Steve was responsible for some of the greatest technological achievements of our time. I think it’s safe to say that you would be hard-pressed to find someone who has not been impacted by his passion, ingenuity and accomplishments.

In honor of Steve’s passing, we’d like to recap a bit about his life, his energy and his vision.

Steve co-founded Apple in 1976 with the goal of changing the world. He saw the digital universe as the new frontier, and he was determined to map out his own distinct path. Before long, he and his Apple team successfully launched one of the first lines of personal computers, and in the 1980s, introduced the Macintosh computer to the world.

After leaving Apple for several years, Jobs became heavily involved in Pixar and NeXT Computer. With a fresh start, Jobs felt re-energized and found a new creative tap, which led to bolder ideas and some of the greatest technological products of our era.

Jobs rejoined Apple in 1997 and the creativity quickly followed. Apple soon became one of the most valuable companies in the world, turning out revolutionary products such as the iMac and iPod, and more recently, the iPad and iPhone.

Without Jobs, the world would be a very different place. His ideas inspired, created and moved, and his legacy will live on long after his passing. What do you remember Jobs for most?

We leave you with an inspirational quote from the man himself:

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

Using the Vatican’s Twitter account, the Pope Tweeted for the first time June 28th from an iPad. Not only was this a historic moment of religion and technology’s converging, but the moment when the Pope proved himself one techno-savvy Catholic leader #colormeimpressed.

Watch the Pope Tweeting here!

The Pope actually Tweeted from an already-active account used by the Vatican.

However, technology has not always worked in the Vatican and Pope Benedict XVI’s favor. Recently Apple released the Confession: A Roman Catholic App advertised as “the perfect aid for every penitent.” While the Vatican wagged its finger at the virtual penance (claiming it is in no way a substitute), Apple gets a thumbs up for continuing to live up to its advertising (and now trademarked) promise: there IS an app for that.

Click here to purchase the Confession: A Roman Catholic App.

Despite the Apple app setback, Pope Benedict XVI and the Vatican will continue to connect with tech savvy users, 140 characters at a time.

What do you think about the Pope tweeting? Will you follow him on Twitter?

Today is the day! People are lining up around the block at local stores to be among the first to get their hands on Apple’s latest: the iPad 2! And for those who don’t know, the iPad 2 promises to be thinner, sleeker and faster than its predecessor with all new features that will blow your mind.

Sounds incredible, right? It’s easy enough to say that you want one, but how far would you go to actually get one…today? Because if you’re one of those people who believes “must have” is your only option, you might be in for more than you can bargain for.

Just this morning, New York college student Amanda Foote, who held the number one position in the iPad 2 line at New York’s flagship Apple store, discovered that it’s not about what she would do for an iPad 2–but rather what would someone else do for the new device.

After spending 41 hours in line with rain, cold and strange encounters, Amanda decided to sell her front-running position for a whopping $900. That’s an expensive ticket to get your new iPad, but for the man who purchased her place, it was entirely worth it. How far would you go to own the iPad 2 first?

And finally, the question on everyone’s minds: So what does Amanda plan to do with her newly acquired money? If you’re thinking iPad 2, try thinking a little less tech, a little more Gaga. That’s right. Amanda is happy to use her money for concert tickets to see Lady Gaga–proving that some things are simply worth waiting in line for.

But if you’re like me, and you held out for the new hand-held – congrats! It looks like we will benefit from the lessons of others.

Over the weekend I was at a social function and ran into a friend of mine that works as an Apple Genius. This guy knows his stuff and is a devoted fan of all things Mac.

We got to talking about the iPad and its pros and cons. I explained to him that I have both an iPhone and a Kindle and therefore fail to find a need for the new toy. He, surprisingly, agreed but went on to speak to the iPad’s other potential uses.

My favorite suggestion of his was to have hospitals use it for medical record tracking. I can absolutely see doctors ditching the clipboard for an iPad. Not only would it save time and increase efficiency, but it’s also eco-friendly! How’s that for functionality?
