A Push in the Right Direction

fbsyncpromptOne small step for Facebook and iPhone, one giant leap for my life! The newest update to the Facebook iPhone application includes push notifications—finally! What does that mean? It means that when someone requests your friendship, adds a comment on your profile, sends you a message, etc., you will be notified by your trusty iPhone – or Droid… if you’re one of those people ;) .

Honestly, this may seem like the smallest improvement to many, but for me staying in the know is crucial. Version 3.1 allows you to customize which notifications you would like to receive as well, so you won’t necessarily be overwhelmed during the day. So fabulous.

I’m Not Mad – I’m Just Disappointed

Dear AT&T,

It has come to my attention that lately you’ve been a bit of a grump about the network usage. You say you’d like for my fellow iPhone devotees and me to cool it on the data consumption. Now, while I don’t live in New York or San Francisco, the mere fact that you are taking on your biggest fans has left me, well, displeased.

Here’s the thing: you give us this wonderful toy to play with, loaded with fabulous applications, abilities and magical wonders, and then ask (not even that politely) for us to limit our playtime?! How is that fair? These folks that you’re speaking to – the ones that you say are bogging down your network with their constant usage – they’re the ones passing along the good word about AT&T. They are the ones you should be keeping happy.

What’s the deal guys? If I can’t use the phone/network and all the fantastic things that come with it, then what’s the point of paying for it in the first place?

Sincerely,

Sad & Disappointed in Long Beach

What’s Next for Our Mobile Devices?

iPhone Does it All! Or DOES it?!After reading an interesting article on Adage.com about a man, his iPhone, a birthday party and the future of mobile devices…

The iPhone is clearly resetting consumer expectations about the role, functionality and integration of devices, and other brands are moving in a similar direction. At the end of the day, we need to understand where the puck is moving. – Pete Blackshaw Adage.com

…we got to thinking: what future mobile device capabilities would we like to see?

  • An application that does our laundry.
  • A phone that does the talking for you. This would come in really handy when friends call for a late-night complaining session.
  • Cooking capabilities. Think about it—what if your phone could whip up a delicious plate of chicken cacciatore for you!?

In all seriousness, we’d love to have a forward function for text messaging. That’s probably more reasonable.
